Frieze New York has named the 68 exhibitors that will participate in its 2024 edition, scheduled to take place May 1–5 at the Shed.
This year’s exhibitor list features one gallery fewer than last year’s, representing the continued boutique-size of Frieze’s New York fair since its move to the Shed. This edition also represents the first since Frieze purchased the other main New York fair, the Armory Show, last summer. As with last year, the fair does not coincide with Independent New York, which announced its exhibitor list last week.
Among the exhibitors are all four mega-galleries (Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace, and David Zwirner), as well as blue-chip exhibitors like Gladstone Gallery, Xavier Hufkens, Gallery Hyundai, David Kordansky Gallery, Kurimanzutto, Massimo de Carlo, Mendes Wood DM, Victoria Miro, Thaddaeus Ropac, and White Cube.
As with past editions, the fair gathers top New York galleries, like Canada, Chapter NY, James Cohan, Casey Kaplan, Matthew Marks Gallery, and Ortuzar Projects, alongside closely watched international dealers like Instituto de Vision, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Sprüth Magers, and Stevenson.
In a statement, Christine Messineo, Frieze’s Americas director, said, “In a city home to an array of outstanding art institutions, galleries and artists, Frieze is pleased to bring together, in a single venue, a host of exhibitors who together represent the finest in contemporary art. Frieze New York will combine a global perspective with a showcase of the city’s exceptional galleries while recognizing non-profit organizations that enrich the diverse arts communities of New York.”
Of the 68 exhibitors, 11 will participate in the Focus section, dedicated to solo presentations of emerging or underknown artists. This year, it is curated by New York–based curator Lumi Tan, who is currently curatorial director for the Luna Luna art theme park in LA. Galleries participating include Kapp Kapp, Patron, Cooper Cole, and Matthew Brown.
Tan said in a statement, “In this truly intergenerational group of artists, audiences will recognize innovators who have long represented stories and perspectives overlooked by dominant culture. It’s a thrilling opportunity to bring those who have been steadfast in their position for decades together with younger artists who share throughlines in their artistic and societal concerns.”
